About Us The Findlay Men's Hockey League is a non-profit association that brings together players from all over Northwest Ohio to play organized hockey in the city of Findlay. (Which is located about 45 miles south of Toledo, and 40 miles north of Lima) Fall and Winter league games are played at the Hancock Rec Center. Summer session games are played at the University of Findlay's Clauss Arena. Our league contains 4 levels of play, which allows everyone, from the experienced player down to the first time skater, the chance to play the great game of ice hockey. A League: Features our leagues most experienced players and is a faster level of play. Many of the players at this level have high school and/or college experience. Full slap-shots are allowed and facemasks are optional. This league is for players rated 7.0 and above. B1 League: This league is for the intermediate/experienced skater who is looking for a slightly slower pace than the A League, and a quicker pace than the B2 league. Players in this league are required to wear at least a half-shield facemask, full slap-shots are allowed. This league is for players rated 5.0 to 7.0. In the event that an A League is not formed, all players rated 5.5 and above will skate in the B1 league. B2 League: This league is for the player that has improved to the point that the C league is no longer a viable option for them. This is also an excellent league for many of our former "B" players that want to play at a slightly slower pace. The player in this league would be rated 3.0 to 5.0 on our league rating scale. Players in this league are required to wear at least a half-shield facemask, slap shots are limited to waist height. C League: This league is for the beginning skater/player, with a slow pace of play. Players are required to wear full facemasks, and slap-shots are not allowed. This league is limited to players that are rated 2.5 and below. Once a player has developed sufficient skating, stick-handling, and positional skills, they are moved up to our B League. Instructional League: This league is for the first time skater or beginning level skater. The league consists of 1 weekly practice session (1 hour each) and is followed by some controlled scrimmages. This league allows our new players to be introduced to the game of hockey gradually, without simply tossing them into a game the first time they want to try playing. Practices will focus on skating skills and build up to passing, shooting and positional skills each week. After several weeks of practice sessions we will begin having controlled scrimmages (coaches on the ice with players) so players can learn as they play. The final week of the league will place the players in a "league game" with referees, scorekeepers, and no coaches on the ice. Each league as a "core night" on which a majority of the seasons games will be played. The table above lists which league plays on which night.
